Picture day

Today Adam and I are having our engagement photos taken. I am really excited. I hired the photographer who shot my sister's wedding and who I already know that I like. I hope I am confident enough to tell her exactly what style I want. Mostly I will let her do her thing, but I know for sure that I want simple, natural portraits, and not overly cheesy shots or gratuitous ring close-ups.

 Adam and I are getting engagement photos taken next week, so I've been searching for some non-cheesy concept inspiration. Lo and behold, these lovely, serene photos popped up on Once Wed today.

Aren't they beautiful? No props, no signs, no balloons. Just simple portraits, done well. Love.

Anyone who is on Pinterest has probably seen this cute nail job about a million times, but I love it. Love it! I am so damn lazy in the summertime that this sparkly-just-on-the-ring-finger is totally appealing. Cute and easy and way less work than painting ALL my nails.

*In other news, I knew I found the right bridal salon when the seamstress told me that "massage and the right angle cut on the bodice" would easily hide my back fat (and all the other salons had suggested dieting). Talk about love. Here's to a summer of ice cream and massages. xoxo

When I saw my girl Liz was featured on Grey Likes Weddings yesterday, I squealed with excitement. Not only is Liz really Talented (yes, capital T), she's not your average floral designer.*

What I love about these arrangements is her use of red. I love red, but I find it can look harsh and cheap when used in the wrong shades or contexts. Luckily Liz knows what she's doing:

Inspired by her use of color, I turned to my Tumblr archive and pulled out all the red wedding accents I'd been saving in my inspiration files. Et voila, a delightful red event emerges!

Red is so romantic! And surprisingly modern I think. Loves it. 

*For one thing, I met her in Montreal when she was studying architecture and history (how many florists have that on their resume?), but she's originally from the West Coast (represent!), and now she's down in Austin bringing her unique sophisticated-but-fun styles to the south. Talk about a unique perspective.
