This one is quite pretty. I could see wearing this with a breezy white sundress while dining al fresco on my honeymoon.

To me this room describes my late twenties perfectly: a mix of college nostalgia (mix & match scheme, artsy posters), grown up restraint (clean lined furniture, simple palette), and unending optimism (ghost chandelier, light). I love it!

Flowers in my hair

Adam and I are stopping in San Francisco on our way to Hawaii. I could not be more excited!

I think we'll only be there for one afternoon and evening, so I hope to see the Golden Gate bridge and some super steep hills. At the very least, we'll sip an Anchor brew and chat about our wedding. I'm feeling more relaxed just thinking about it!

My dad told me the other day not to be scared of turning down work. He suggested that the more you say no to clients, the more they'll want you.

In the interest of clearing some time for wedding stuff, I have be turning down work (a very unusual thing for me to do*). And the response is unanimous: every client has asked me again. I always recommend someone else for the work I can't take on, but my clients have all said they will hire me in February, after the wedding, and to just call me when I'm available again.

Thanks for the tip, dad!

Have any of you freelancers also found playing hard-to-get a viable business strategy?


*Last year I worked a project while on a group vacation for a wedding. I typed away in the hotel lobby at 6am while all my friends slept off their hangovers. First vacation I've actually made money on, but it wasn't worth it.

3 things I learned at premarital counseling

On Saturday, Adam and I went to our first session of premarital counseling (a requirement for a Catholic wedding).

It was, as you might expect from church-mandated-counseling, a bit sexist, a bit homophobic and a bit corny. But I did learn a few things and I'd like to record them (if nothing more than for myself to refer to a year or two from now).

Curiouser and curiouser

Read a very interesting article on wedding diets today.  A lovely reminder that a "wedding is a beginning, rather than an end."

I am a bit of a hypocrite though. I have most definitely been keeping up a rigorous workout schedule for the past year. I find that more than anything, exercise helps me manage my stress, and wedding planning is a very stressful endeavor. If I'm not stressed, I drink less alcohol and thus don't gain weight as easily.

What does it say about a modern wedding if a girl is driven to near alcoholism planning a 65-person supper, and has to resort to three hours of boot camp a week just to maintain her sanity (and put down the six pack)?

Nothing good, but we all know this, don't we?

Do let me know if any of you have figured out how to avoid this sort of wedding-related-stress-weight-fluctuations. I'm sure there's someone out there who has avoided the pressure.
