Get yo socks on.

Sometimes inspiration comes from random places. Like this 2008 Vogue Photoshoot that I stumbled across on a 2010 post over at Don't Feed the Models (via The House that Lars Built)
I just love when "fashion" looks like something my 10-year-old cousin would throw on. Excuse me while I rock a fabulous evening gown with plaid socks. This is fashion!

Pretty, pretty

Dig these birds.

And PS - the gown is scalloped. Win!

Good advice

A volunteer firefighter gives the most mind-bogglingly simple (and possibly life-changing) advice for living a better life: Don't wait to be a hero, save the shoes.

It's four minutes long. Watch it. Feel good.

Marie Claire sucks/rant of the day

Sigh. Marie Claire once again helpfully highlights that when you're thin, you're interesting, and if you're not thin, your entire identity is your relationship with your body.

This is the same magazine that printed an online article called "Should Fatties Get a Room?" Yes, really. (That links to Jezebel by the way, not Marie Claire).

If the media really wants to proactively counteract our culture's obsession with weight, then weight needs to be a non-issue. How about an article about Amber Riley's talent, perspective and dreams? You know, as if she's a real person. I'm so bored with articles featuring curvy girls with the headline "How I learned to love myself." As if loving yourself is an act that is limited to thin girls. And coming from the same fat-phobic magazine that profited off that link-bait Fatties article? Yuck.

Yuck yuck yuck.

Prep rally

As soon as I saw this hot bitch ensemble, I whipped off my jeans and threw on my leggings, pointy toed flats, cardigan and pearls. I mean, hello! Preppy springtime hotness alert! How perfect is this outfit for a day of touring Open Houses? I need to practice teasing up my ponytail comme ça.

Maybe a style philosophy of "Kate Spade at a Dropkick Murphy's show" is not out of the question after all.

File this under: "Duh"

Vintage floral brooch as boutonnière. Seriously, why haven't I seen this before?

 Genius.

Bonus points for raiding grandma's collection for borrowed imperfection rather than hitting the thrift store for the "perfect" vintage piece. Less stuff more life, people! There are bike rides to be had!

An art project for rainy days

How cute are these Painted Kokeshi Dolls?!

I would have loved making these as a kid am probably going to make these for fun on the next rainy Saturday in Vancouver. I'll make their little kimonos with the odds and ends of origami, scrapbooking and wrapping paper I have lying around. Loves it!
