Marie Claire sucks/rant of the day

Sigh. Marie Claire once again helpfully highlights that when you're thin, you're interesting, and if you're not thin, your entire identity is your relationship with your body.

This is the same magazine that printed an online article called "Should Fatties Get a Room?" Yes, really. (That links to Jezebel by the way, not Marie Claire).

If the media really wants to proactively counteract our culture's obsession with weight, then weight needs to be a non-issue. How about an article about Amber Riley's talent, perspective and dreams? You know, as if she's a real person. I'm so bored with articles featuring curvy girls with the headline "How I learned to love myself." As if loving yourself is an act that is limited to thin girls. And coming from the same fat-phobic magazine that profited off that link-bait Fatties article? Yuck.

Yuck yuck yuck.

  1. Woah!
I had no idea Marie Claire would write any of that stuff! It seems more of an Anna Wintour kind of thing!
It's actually very insensitive writing. I can't believe that went through so many people and it was approved for the magazine! BOTH articles!

  2. Crazy, right? Scary thing is that they probably published it just to up their click through rates. Lamesauce. I have tried to stop buying magazines and just read my lovely blogger friends instead.
